The Cornish Theatre Collective’s adaptation of Paulo Coelho’s classic novel has been the company’s most successful production to date.
It is currently in its fifth incarnation, touring Middle Scale venues.
“A genuinely transporting experience, they create theatrical alchemy… Not so much the message of the story, as the telling of it that counts here, and the Cornish Theatre Collective do it with a captivating simplicity. The company’s work demonstrates a rare and risky ability to be wide-eyed, charming and almost naïve without being in the slightest bit fey. It is artfully artless. A delightful, unexpected treat.”
Lyn Gardner, The Guardian.
“A bold and inventive adaptation…unexpected perspectives, both physical and emotional, are apparent from the opening moments. The evening’s success is assured by Dominic Knutton’s ingenious, fluid production that recreates Coelho’s primitive world with startling vividness. The five actors’ inventiveness is riveting and often funny, but you never have the feeling that this is just showy athleticism, neither does the show sentimentalise Coelho’s message. Recommended.”
Kate Stratton, Time Out
“Dominic Knutton’s production is far more elegant and inventive than one is used to at The Finborough”
Rhoda Koenig, The Independent
“Beautifully choreographed, cleverly staged and with a strong cast, The Alchemist is a must for anyone searching for answers to life’s mysteries”
Western Morning News
“Directed with faith and fire, it could hardly have been more inventive or imaginative. A production to be praised to the skies”
“Inventive and innovative, a night of wonder and magical escapism”
